Excerpt from "A Praia" (2025)
A sensory depiction of family recordings from seaside afternoons spent among friends and familiar strangers. The footage, captured on an early digital camera, remains largely untouched: its rough texture and soft, faded colors are preserved, allowing the material to hold onto its temporal decay. By layering images and disarranging their original chronology, the piece drifts through a visual language shaped not by narrative but by sensation, echoing the mealeable surfaces of memory.

The absence of sound — a departure from my previous works — mirrors my experience as a hearing-impaired child who would not wear hearing aids while playing at the beach. It evokes the silent, image-based way these childhood moments remain with me. Rather than reconstructing events, the work explores how memory persists as flashes, textures, and impressions that resist resolution.
